Spring hair ideas + trends 2018

There's no better opportunity than to start Spring season by break out of your hair rut and starting off fresh with a new cut.

If 2017 has taught us anything, it's that the bob isn't going anywhere—for good reason. The shoulder-grazing length is universally flattering for every face shape and a number of hair textures, too. But, if your relationship with your bob is starting to feel stale, there's a handful of cuts to consider that are about to become 2018's biggest hair trends.

A dramatic or subtle hair change is up to you, but the cuts we've been tracking on red carpet have all the bases covered. Katie Holmes's layered pixie, and Helen Mirren’s blunt bob and bangs are just a few of the styles that you're going to see everywhere in the new year.

There are some people who decide on a hairstyle at age 12 and never change it. Then there are others who have a new hairstyle/colour every month! The fun thing about hair is that it can be changed as many times as you want, and every small change can make you feel like a new person. Sometimes we go through life events where we need to make a change to feel better. Some people turn to tattoos or perhaps a new style of clothing. But an easy and fun way to bring a change into your life is a new hairstyle.

There are endless options to choose from and you can change your mind as much as you like. You might be stuck in your ways, or you might be ready to break out of your shell. If you are looking for a new hairstyle, the first thing you will want to do is decide on what type of look are you going for. Do you want a short and sassy cut or a long and dramatic look with highlights and bangs? Because there are so many options, you might feel a little overwhelmed. The Internet is a great place to start looking for hairstyle ideas. You can start bookmarking or printing out the hairstyles that you like. You don’t have to make a decision right away – you can look at some photos from time to time to decide which one you think will suit you the best.

An outing to the hair salon might be a big excursion for you , so you want to make sure that you know exactly what you want to get done before making this trip. If you are still confused as to what kind of hairstyle you want, you can always ask Tracy Strycker , stylist at Salon Allegra for recommendations. Let’s go over a few popular hairstyles that you might want to try out for yourself.

1 SHORT & CURLY

As we get older, we still care about our appearance, but we might be in search of a low maintenance look when it comes to our hair. A really popular hairstyle is a short and curly style. Most people have a natural curl or wave to their hair and in their youth, they might have spent hours straightening it with a flat iron. But when we reach a certain age, it feels great to embrace our natural look. When your hair is short, all you need to do is run a comb through it after you shower and let it dry naturally. Even if you wanted to spend time blow drying and curling it with a curling iron, the time would be significantly reduced because of the length of hair you’re dealing with.

2 BOB HAIRCUT

For those with naturally straight hair, a bob haircut can be a sleek and chic option for you. This haircut is a short cut that falls right beneath your chin. It can be very low maintenance if your hair dries straight, but if you have naturally curly or wavy hair, you might have to spend some time blow drying it and/or straightening it to get the desired look. Many seniors gravitate towards this hairstyle because it is simple and sophisticated. It is very low maintenance and is flattering on most face shapes. If you are afraid of going so short, you can always try a shoulder-length cut. Once you get used to the shorter length, you can move up to a bob next time you go to the hair salon.

3 PROFESSIONALLY STRAIGHTENED

In our 20s, styling our hair every morning was a fun and quick task. But as we enter our later years, styling your hair can become laborious and time-consuming. A great solution to this would be to have you hair professionally straightened. Your hair stylist will use a chemical treatment that they will place all over your hair. You will leave it in for an allotted amount of time and then it will be washed out. They will then use a flat iron to “seal in” the product they used and your hair will remain straight even when you wash it! This procedure is temporary, so when your hair grows out, you will need to schedule another appointment. But the temporary results will allow you to let your hair dry naturally and have sleek, straight hair.

5 COLOURING

A great way to change up your overall look is to colour your hair. You might have succumbed to grey hair years ago, but if you have maintained your hair colour, this might be a fun time to switch it up! If you are a natural blonde or have had blonde hair your whole life, retirement might be the perfect time to go a dark shade of brown. Your friends and family members won’t even recognize you! If you aren’t ready for such a significant change, you can always get highlights or lowlights that frame your face. This subtle change can make you feel and look younger.

6 HAIRSTYLES FOR FINE HAIR

If you have lived with fine hair your whole life, you will know the struggles that come along with styling it. While your friends were curling or crimping their hair, or running their hands through their thick mane, you might have looked on longingly, wishing that your fine, flat hair would comply. But having fine hair is nothing to be ashamed of. Fine, straight hair is beautiful and can be style in a number of different ways. The shorter you cut your hair, the thicker it appears. So if you have fine hair, you might want to consider a shoulder length or chin length cut. Also, using headbands or barrettes can give your hair some extra

volume. Investing in a good hairspray can also help build up the volume.

7 HAIRSTYLES FOR THICK HAIR

People who have thin hair always complain and wish they had thick hair and people with thick hair complain and wish they had thin hair. The grass is always greener on the other side! While thick hair is desirable by many, it can be a little trickier and more time-consuming to style. When you have thick hair, layers are a great way to thin out your hair and give it more of a style. Also, longer hairstyles can be more flattering for people with thick hair. When you cut your shorter, it automatically gives the appearance of a fuller style, so if you want to give the illusion of thinner hair, make sure you stick with a longer style.

8 HAIRSTYLES FOR SHORT HAIR

Having short hair is the most convenient and efficient hairstyle you can have. It is very low maintenance and some people don’t need to use any product at all. If you have shoulder length hair, you will still need to brush it and you can use hair accessories for a little change. You can also use a flat iron or Velcro curler to give it some body. If you hair is cropped close to your head, a bit of hair spray in the morning might be all you need.

9 HAIRSTYLES FOR LONG HAIR

Although it can be the most time-consuming, long hair can be the most fun to style because you have so many options. It is rare to have long hair because that style is usually associated with younger people, but there are plenty of middle aged + seniors who opt for a longer ‘do that it is sophisticated and age appropriate. Face-framing layers or a blunt cut can keep your long hair neat and tidy. You can also easily braid your hair and leave it hanging down your back or you can wrap it around to make a bun at the nape of your neck or on the top of your head. Long hair is fun to style – just make sure you set aside plenty of time to do it.
